Thankful for Eileen Spinelli's Thankful book
Eileen Spinelli has written an absolutely delightful book: Thankful. The description on the book jacket says the following: "Beloved children's author Eileen Spinelli and illustrator Archie Preston inspire children of all ages with Thankful, a whimsical picture book that celebrates the everyday blessings we find in our lives." This book is, indeed, whimsical and inspirational. The pictures are fun, colorful, and even a little humorous as they show scenes of a little girl and her younger brother playing dress-up together. As they play dress-up, the children appear as everything from a waitress and reporter to a queen and a sailor. The book goes through different roles/jobs people have and mentions one thing for which they would be thankful. In addition to the little children, a dad and a mom are also shown in some of the scenes. For example, the dad is "the chef" who is "thankful for plates licked clean." The mom also plays different roles, such as "the tailor" who is thankful for her "sewing machine." The text rhymes, which adds to the delightfulness of it.
I love how this book celebrates being thankful for the simple things and for the things we might normally take for granted. This precious book could easily be used to start a conversation with our kids about being thankful and fostering a thankful attitude! I am always looking for books like this around Thanksgiving time, and this one will be a wonderfully inspiring book to add to our collection. I anticipate reading it not just at Thanksgiving time but also throughout the entire year.
